Culture QotD: Downsizing the Holidays
What's your best advice/recipe/secret tip for someone throwing a holiday party on a budget?
1. Use small plates/cups
It helps with portion size.
2. Buy in bulk
If you can get a big bag of chicken wings, for instance, you can separate them into groups and season them differently. That way, people may be inclined to get 1 or 2 of each kind rather than 8 of just the one kind.
Also, if you make 2 or 3 things with a common ingredient like mayonnaise, sour cream or salsa, you can save by buying the bigger containers.
3. Invite at least 1 person that is very entertaining or plan a game or event
People's attention will be more on the "life of the party" or on the game or whatever it is you've planned than on the modest amount of food.
