Today is Name Your Poison Day. So make a decision and tell us: what's your poison?
The What Kind Of Poison Are You Test
++++NITRIC ACID++++
Do you like fire? Because you sure do like to burn! You are the acid from hell, sent back to exact revenge on the less fortunate and less well equipped in life.
Used for explosives and fertilizers, you excel at combustion, even the common charcoal pencil is your best friend when you feel the need to lash out, making you a very popular but spontaneous and somewhat explosive companion.
People around you prefer the air to be as dry as nuns gusset, but give a small bit of moisture and Wham, there ya go, setting off a choking gas that consumes everyone in your path. When it's really damp, you like nothing better than hopping in to rain droplets and migling around to form acid rain.
Corrosive to the max, the health effects you have are something else! Inhalation causes breathing difficulties and leads to pneumonia and pulmonary edema, which may be fatal. Ingesting, well, lest just say a hot mouth might not be so appealing anymore. The skin and eyes melt to your touch. The list goes on.
Chances are people usually take two steps back before taking one step forward with you, but if they got to know you, and how to handle your delicate state, you may just prove to be one of the best out there!
Today is Repeat Day, so we want to know: what song do you have currently have on repeat? Bonus points if you share it with us!
This is my JAM!!!!
Is there anything you'd like to change about yourself? What?
Most days I'm glad for my passionate personality. I mean, if I like something I really like it. If I don't, well then, look out! Don't ever ask my opinion about anything, if you only want to hear what YOU want to hear. That's not how I roll!
But sometimes, sometimes, I wish I could be the calm, cool person who seems to trot through life and life's challenges with utter grace and dignity.
A few years ago, I tried to meditate once a week. Usually, instead of finding my center, I fell asleep!
I finally gave it up. I guess I just have too much heat in my personality to be that person. **sigh**
Instead of this:
I'm usually like this:
Okay, I'm exaggerating! More like this:
I guess it's not such a bad thing that I feel so much, care so much...right?
Are you worried about a swine flu pandemic?
Not really. Even though the media seems damned determined to scare the hell outta everyone.
40 confirmed cases out of 220 million + people? I can live with those odds........
What was your first concert?
It's been so long, I can't remember which of this was first.
I got free tickets to the Lionel Richie concert, with Tina Turner opening. It was 1984-ish. One of my older cousins had to take me because I was 13/14/15. This was when Lionel was BIG and Tina was just starting her comeback. Her version of "Let's Stay Together" was on rotation on the radio; "What's Love Got to Do With It" hadn't made a blip on the radar over here yet.
There were several memorable events that night. It was a GREAT show, very entertaining. We were late, so we missed Tina, but that wasn't a big deal to me (at the time). She did come out later (from the audience) and sing "Three Times A Lady" with Lionel.
When he sang "Endless Love" (swoon), we were (hoping) Diana was gonna come out and sing with Lionel. Instead a movie screen on the stage played her singing her parts of the song. The screen was on a track and at one point, they "held hands" as Lionel pulled the screen along the length of the stage. Very cool!
Pete Escovedo, renown percussionist, was in Lionel's band, but was too ill to perform that night. Someone who Lionel kept laughingly referring to as "Pete", but looked a lot like Pete's daughter, Sheila, performed in his place.
My other possible first was 1985-ish. It was RUN-DMC & The Beastie Boys, the Raising Hell Tour, maybe? Since it was youth-friendly, my friend Stephanie & I went, with her mom and little cousin (who we decided was too young and uncool to go) as chaperones. I remember we were VERY excited and felt like "big girls", even with the chaperone(s).
And then the concert started! We were so pumped to hear the rapping!
We couldn't hear SHIT.
It was that distorted, screaming in the microphone crap that (mostly) old school raps shows were all about. We were so disappointed! But we had a good time anyway. We were "big girls"!
If you had to invite five friends or celebrities (or a combination of both) to a slumber party at your house tonight, who would you include and what movies would you rent?
I can't think of any celebrities right now. But RL folks? Lostdwarf, Britomart, Julia, Andie, my sister, Kelly, Alex, Marcia and Angie. (I know that's more than 5.) Sorry, no boys! ;-)
Oh, we'd have to watch the Leprechaun movies so we could laugh our asses off!
Actually, I own 2 of these movies. Heh.
Or we could do a fun "movies I grew up with": The Last Dragon, Fright Night, I'm Gonna Get You Sucka, Lost Boys, The Goonies.
Or "movies to mock": Twilight, Caved In & Under the Cherry Moon.
Have you ever walked out of a movie?
Submitted by Jack Yan.
I usually pick pretty well.......
BUT!
My sister & I got so tickled during "Twilight", that we had to leave the theater to compose ourselves. That Jasper!
What's the biggest local news story in your hometown right now?
Unfortunately, this story has dominated everything for the last 3 days. I hate to see him go, but let the man go in peace. Please! Stop stalking his home and office.
It's basketball, I know. It's sacred. But let's just keep this shit in perspective. Nobody has died, nobody's house has burned down. At the end of the day, we basically talking about a guy who has left one job for another. I'm just sayin'.
Memphis Tigers coach John Calipari will take Kentucky basketball job
After nearly a full day of reflection and struggle, John Calipari decided Tuesday to accept the head coaching job at Kentucky and leave the University of Memphis after nine seasons. A news conference to introduce Calipari as the new Kentucky coach will take place at 8:30 a.m. CDT Wednesday in Lexington, Ky.

University of Memphis basketball coach John Calipari resigned and will take the head coaching position at the University of Kentucky.
Though word began to leak out at about 5:20 p.m., Calipari confirmed it himself with a text message at 6:27 p.m., reading “I am accepting the uk job! Go Big Blue.”
Calipari’s departure brings a quick and disappointing end to a run of success never before seen in school history. Memphis reached the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 in each of Calipari’s last four years, including an appearance in the 2008 championship game. Calipari finished with a record of 250-69 with the Tigers.
Calipari will receive an eight-year, $31.65 million deal plus incentives, according to the University of Kentucky. According to sources close to the process, however, Memphis had offered a deal that was just as lucrative.
Kentucky will pay Memphis a $200,000 buyout that was included in Calipari’s U of M contract.
On Monday afternoon, just when it appeared certain Calipari would accept Kentucky’s deal, he met with influential Memphians, including major donors William B. Dunavant, John Stokes and Paul Tudor Jones, according to a source. Later in the night, FedEx Chairman and CEO Frederick W. Smith went to Calipari’s house for a meeting.
Their last-ditch efforts to get Calipari to stay included a retirement package and incentives that one Memphis booster described as unique.
Late into Monday evening, a source closely connected to Calipari described the situation as intense and said he was divided about whether to leave. Calipari showed up at Gibson’s Donuts in East Memphis on Tuesday morning and indicated he would bring the process to conclusion in the afternoon. All through the day, people connected to Calipari said he was going back-and-forth on the decision. As it turned out, Calipari was only saying goodbye.
Memphis athletic director R.C. Johnson will hold a news conference at noon Wednesday to discuss plans for the future, as the program moves into its first coaching search since 2000. Donors Alan Graf and Mike Rose will play major roles in the search.
One name at the top of Memphis’ list was removed on Tuesday night when Mike Anderson agreed to a new seven-year contract to stay at Missouri.
The next coach on Memphis’ radar could be Southern California’s Tim Floyd, who has big-time recruiting connections, a track record of college success and NBA head coaching experience. Floyd, who reportedly makes $850,000 at USC, might also be intrigued by the opportunity to coach at a school where basketball is the top priority and doesn’t have to share the spotlight with USC football or UCLA basketball.
According to one of Floyd’s close friends in coaching, he would be interested in the job because of his strong roots in the South, despite his recent acclimation to the West Coast. Floyd owns a home just outside of Hattiesburg, Miss., where he was born. According to the coach, who requested to remain anonymous, the Memphis job would make a lot of sense for Floyd and he’d be as close to Calipari as Memphis could find in terms of his track record and ability to fit in with the program.
Other names that might come into play include Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy, Miami coach Frank Haith, UTEP coach Tony Barbee, current assistant Josh Pastner or former New Mexico State and Sacramento Kings coach Reggie Theus.
ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla said Memphis can stay relevant if it makes the right hire.
“There’s no question. It will be slightly different,” Fraschilla said. “What John did is going to be tough to duplicate, and I’m not sure most coaches would want to try to step in his shoes, but two guys that could get it done are Tim Floyd and Mike Anderson. They both have the experience and the recruiting ties and the substance to be able to weather what is a tough place to please a great fan base.”
Whoever gets the job could be dealing with massive fallout from the current recruiting class and roster. Even with Calipari, Memphis was expected to lose three or possibly four starters to the professional ranks and needed its four signed recruits from last fall to replenish the roster with the promise of at least one or two more signing in the spring.
Instead, those recruits will all have the option to get out of their letters-of-intent, and Memphis could conceivably be starting over from scratch unless the new coach can keep parts of the recruiting class together. Plus, some underclassmen on the current roster could be evaluating their futures in the coming days.
