Three days later, I still cannot believe it. Michael Joseph Jackson, the King of Pop, is dead at fifty years old.
I have neither the time nor the coherence to properly post on his passing. I do wish love, comfort and prayers to his children, his family and anyone who has ever been touched by his musical genius.
These two songs have been close to my heart these last three days. For Michael, for me and for his fans:
Here's an excellent article from music critic Nelson George.
E! Online is reporting that Andy Hallet who played Lorne AKA Krevlornswath of the Deathwok Clan on Angel, has passed away today of heart failure. He was 33.
Lorne was a great character. At times he was the conscience of Angel's group, the comic relief, the spiritual adviser and the bringer of the FUN!
Although Andy Hallett was a good voice, he was a little nasal for my taste. But anytime he was singing, that meant there was a good time to be had.
Condolences to his family, his friends and his fans....
I was sad to read yesterday the Majel Barrett AKA Mrs. Gene Roddenberry had died. As a liker of Star Trek, and a lover of Star Trek: The Next Generation, I always had a fondness for Lwaxana Troi and the actress that portrayed her. Often referred to as "The First Lady of Star Trek", Barrett was "Number One" in the first pilot for the original Star Trek, as well as Nurse Chapel during the run of the series. Barrett was also the voice of the computer in all incarnations of Star Trek, including the new movie coming out next year.
Poor a little out for my girl.....
On Friday, Levi Stubbs, the lead singer of The Four Tops, died in his sleep. He had been sick, which I hadn't heard. It's sad, not just because he's gone, but because so many of the music and film icons that I grew up with are passing away. It makes me sad that these foundations upon which I've built my life and my memories are leaving. It also makes me afraid: of my own advancing age, about the fragility of life in general, and that there may not be others in my life to take the place of these departing icons.
Yes, I'm getting maudlin in my advancing age. **sigh**
Here are clips of some of The Four Tops biggest hits:
Now, only one original Top remains in the group. Here is one of the last recorded shows with all four original Tops from 1996:
(I didn't know until about 2 years ago that The Four Tops had ever covered this song! I only knew the Donna Summer disco version. (And let's not talk about the Richard Harris version!)
And let us not forget the awesome "Temps vs. Tops" medley from Motown's 25th anniversary!

It's not like I've seen all of Paul Newman's movies and followed his career close or anything. But I have seen some of his movies and whenever I saw him in interviews and whatnot, he always seemed like an authentic, genuine person. His warm, generous spirit illuminated everything it touched.
"Nobody's Fool" was on the other week and I stopped & watched just to see old sly Sully:
Mr. Paul Newman, the world is a less nice place because you're gone.
Poor a little out for my man!
Norman Whitfield passed away on Tuesday. He was a prolific songwriter and producer during Motown's heydey in the 1960s.
Here are a few on the songs he's written and/or produced:
And one of his most famous songs (in several different versions because that's how I roll):

Cult Legend Julius 'Sho'nuff' Carry Dies.......damn. I've only watched "The Last Dragon" about a gazillion times!
Julius J. Carry was fantastic in it as "Sho'nuff, the Sho-gun of Harlem". My sister just gave me the DVD last night for my birthday.
It seems like a lot of folks have been getting away from here recently.....
