I’m content to let 2008 fade and reach out with welcoming arms to embrace 2009.
In addition to what I’ve all ready documented, I’ve had an interesting week and a half.
Last Monday: the power in all the outlets in my apartment (except the kitchen) went out twice. As well as the central heat. And my dishwasher.
Last Tuesday: had to take a friend to the ER in a rainstorm…with a horrifically squeaking, not-quite-working-right windshield wiper. Seriously, I wanted to hop out at every red light & snap the fucker off, except that I really did need it. I got home at 11:00 pm to discover that my ceiling was leaking (again) in the living room.
Wednesday: the “spot” that was leaking spread a few feet and in other places that hadn’t previously leaked.
And while in the midst of making candy (you know what kind, lostie), my stove stopped working.
Thursday: had a wonderful, blissful, fun day with The Agitator, The Bear & The Bear’s family. We even played board games, which I love and never EVER get to do anymore.
Friday: spent the afternoon with my mom. We had fun and went to lunch with one of my favorite cousins.
Saturday: got that stupid ass windshield wiper replaced since we were due for another torrential downpour. I also saw “Milk” with The Agitator and The Bear, which was VERY good. I was worried that it would upset me with the bigotry, hatred and assassination. Actually, the bigotry and ignorance just made me sad. Some things STILL haven’t changed. Sean Penn, James Franco, Josh Brolin, everyone was so damn good. I would recommend it, if that's your thing. We got soaked running to the car after the movie and had Christmas leftovers for dinner…yum!
Sunday: spent a few peaceful hours at work. It’s amazing how much I can get done when there are no phones, no patients, and no employees asking me 1,000 questions! I went to a restaurant that’s within walking distance that I haven’t been to in several years. You go, have a great meal and wonder what kept you away! Mmmm, crab cakes….
Monday: slept laaaaate, yay! Chatted with the maintenance guy that came to fix my stove and laughed at how often he’s been over here in the last week. I had a VERY tasty lunch with a colleague who has helped me out TREMENDOUSLY this year. The Agitator and I went to see “The Spirit”. No, just no. The trailers look cool and aesthetically, the movie is wonderful. And Eva Mendes is hot. But the movie just fell flat: the (not so) snappy quips, a brief appearance by the loathsome Eric Balfour (Back, Show Killer!), the uneven acting of Gabriel Macht, the actor who plays The Spirit and poor Samuel L. Jackson. Sam, I love you, but that was a crappily written character that even YOU couldn’t save. Some of the plot “twists” just made no damn sense. At one point during the movie, some one behind us actually said out loud, “WTF?”
I only paid $3, but I still feel like I’m owed some money back….but no, wait, Eva Mendes was REALLY hot.
Me and my 2 husbands hit Applebee’s at nine to try their cheap, late night menu…which left me with heartburn. I know I can’t eat that late at night, especially fat-and-cholesterol laden food. Ugh.
Tuesday: slept laaate, yay! When I woke up, my bathroom floor was covered in water. I know! I just laughed and called maintenance. Again. Later, I locked myself out of my apartment (mmm-hmm) and missed having lunch with a dear friend. Boooo! After tooling around a bit, and spending $13 to take my gas tank from ¼ to FULL (whoo-hoo!), I worked from home for a couple of hours.
I woke up inexplicably at 2:00 am and couldn’t go back to sleep so I started book 4 of the Sookie Stackhouse novels. GREAT reading and I cannot wait to finish…and start book 5!
Today: went into the office for longer than I intended, had another TASTY lunch with my mom and good friend Steph, shopped with my mom and finally made it home, cold and exhausted.
BUT! I’ve got black-eyed peas soaking, a pork shoulder marinating and a big ass bottle of dark rum. I’m feeling pretty good at the moment. I’ve just had to laugh at some of the shit that has befallen me since my little pity party. I mean, the maintenance supervisor and I are good buddies now (ha, ha, ha), I’ve got a beautiful Christmas tree on display and I’m reasonably healthy (achoo!) at the moment.
I cannot ask for anything more than…..2009. Bring. It. On.
